The Art of Mending, by Elizabeth Berg. This is a bit of a girl’s book, but a wonderful study of family dynamics. One of the highlights is how it dealt with a family secret in a balanced manner that allowed us to see the roles and perspectives of all the roles in the family. There was no single “bad guy” in the family, just a system at work. This is how it often is in families. There might be one person who seems to have “the problem” but everyone in the system contributes in his or her own way.
Since I have a 13-year-old daughter, I am always reading books to understand her behavior and improve mine with her. I just finished Not Much Just Chillin’ the hidden lives of middle schoolers by Linda Perlstein. Linda spent a year shadowing a group of kids in a suburban Maryland middle school.  No one likes to be sick. The idea of getting sick or unsettled stomach is not an amusing idea. But, when the idea of nausea becomes overwhelming enough to compel a person to alter their lifestyles and eating habits, the situation may be more than just a normal aversion of vomiting. Emetophobia is the strong fear of vomit and this fear can lead to death in those who suffer from it.
One who fears vomit may fear the thought or actionof vomiting themselves, the thought or actionof others vomiting, or the vomit itself. These patients suffer from extreme amounts of anxiety regarding vomit in general. The difficulty with a phobia of this nature is the precursor to vomiting, eating.
A lot of people who suffer from emetophobia are diagnosed with anorexia way previous to the fear of vomiting is bring into being. The patients will do anything in orderto prevent themselves from vomiting and this includes the cessation of eating.

Mothers and Daughters all over the world experience the same thing that my mother and I experienced
Of course in relationships there are arguments, fights, bickering and the occasional name calling...nothing is perfect
But my mom and I had a fight that lasted for 6 years!
We had the normal every day fights about who to date, when to date, jobs, money, etc
But we had the not so normal fights too...
I felt like I had to live up to a certain expectation and if I didn't then I was disciplined
And because of those fights and the feelings that resulted from them, I had a lot of anger and resentment built up which made me think that I hated my mom
I KNOW that there are other moms and daughters out there that are going through the same thing that my mom and I went through
But guess what....there is good news!
You can move past it!
It's all about taking that first step...
It is definitely the hardest thing to do...but it is so worth it!
Taking that first step opens up a whole new door of possibilities that you can create for your life
